Mercedes Ricon


Dr. Mercedes Ricon is the Associate Director of Killian Oaks Academy, a private Pre-K through 12th grade school in Miami. She has served on the AISF Board of Directors since 2007 and is the current President. Dr. Ricon also serves on the boards of the Independent Schools of South Florida and the National Independent Private School Association. She has lead and been a member of countless accreditation teams. She continues to meet the needs of children and the disadvantaged by volunteering in the community, developing the educational program for The Leadership Learning Center in Allapattah, Florida, and served on the board of Amigos for Kids. Dr. Ricon was born in New York and raised in Spain and Miami. She now resides in Coral Gables, Florida with her three children.

Dr. Ricon has been educating and inspiring children with unique learning styles for over 20 years. At Killian Oaks Academy she has held many roles including teacher, department head, business manager, and assistant principal. With a B.A. in Education, a Master’s Degree in Exceptional Student Education, and a PhD in Exceptional Student Education with a specialization in learning disabilities, Dr. Ricon has worked with students from all backgrounds and abilities. She is an expert in Curriculum Design and Instruction, and recognizes the potential in each child.

Dr. Ricon continually meets the needs of students by creating the strategies and techniques that help students to become successful, independent, and engaged learners. She mentors teachers, and leads professional development seminars to provide teachers with the tools to attain success within the classroom. Through her dedication and commitment to excellence, Dr. Mercedes Ricon has truly made a difference in the lives of children and in our community.
